Tavistock AFC 3rds 7 – 1 Princetown FC

This game was always going to be a competitive local derby between two newly-formed football teams and it was Tavistock who claimed the bragging rights.

Princetown started the game brightly and, with the wind on their backs, dominated the territorial battle for most of the first half without ever threatening to breach the solid Tavistock defence but, as the half progressed, Tavistock settled into the game and started to take control in midfield, launching their own counter attacks.

Princetown were found wanting in defence when faced with the pace of Tavistock’s attackers, and goals from Adam Holland and a brace from Sam Turner saw Tavistock take a comfortable 3 – 0 lead into half-time.

Tavistock extended their lead early in the second half with a fine strike from Daryl Panter, but Princetown struck back with what turned out to be a consolation goal. However, with the wise old heads of Martin Harris and Peter Gibson at the helm, Tavistock quickly reasserted their dominance and, with two more goals from Turner and one from Corey Hancock, ran out comfortable victors.

Tavistock AFC can look forward to another local derby next Saturday (27 August) when they play Tavistock Hire Centre at Walkhampton.
