University of Plymouth FC ‘C’ 3 – 1 Tavistock AFC 3rds
Tavistock will rue their missed chances in a game that they should have won convincingly.
Playing uphill into a strong headwind, Tavistock failed to show up for the first 20 minutes and their sloppy football was punished as they conceded three early goals. However, Tavistock came back strongly in the later stages of the first half and were awarded a penalty for a foul on Dan Lee. Sadly, Cadan Lowther saw his spot kick saved, but this disappointment was shortlived, as Scott Dent fired home just before the break.
The second half saw Tavistock pile on the pressure as they chased the game. Dent failed to make the most of a couple of half-chances before Tavistock were awarded a second penalty. This time it was Tony Ambrosano who saw his penalty saved and, when his rebound shot came crashing back off the post, it was clear that this wasn’t going to be Tavistock’s day.
Tavistock spent the last quarter of the match virtually camped in the UOP penalty area, having pushed their central defender, Pete Gibson, into an attacking role. In the closing stages, Mike Blagdon, Ambrasano, Dent and Lowther all came close to scoring, but it was not to be, and Tavistock dropped three crucial points.
