Match Preview: Yate Town vs Tavistock AFC

The Lambs face another tricky away trip as they travel to inform Yate Town!!!  By Luca Sperti

Tavistock will be looking to pick up their third win on the bounce this Tuesday, following their 3–4 win last Saturday against play-off chancing Bishop’s Cleeve. Goals from Liam Prynn, Jacob Bowker, Dan Koita, and an injury-time strike from Alex Battle were enough for Tavi to grab all three points away from home, for the first time since the 18th of November at Westbury United. Yate Town also picked up three points away from home last Saturday as they beat an improving Exmouth side 1-2 at Southern Road. Two goals in the space of three minutes from Joe Guest (in the 27th minute) and then former Chippenham Town man Nick McCootie (in the 30th minute) were enough for the Bluebells to take all three points back to Gloucestershire.

Yate are a team inform with Darren Mullings’ side currently unbeaten in 2024. Two draws against Bristol Manor Farm and Malvern Town earlier in the month, have been followed up by four impressive victories against Larkhall Athletic, Bemerton Heath Harlequins, Mousehole and Exmouth Town. Yate’s fine form has seen the club move up to 11th in the table with seven wins, six draws and nine defeats this season. Tavi currently sit 13th in the table, with eight wins, two draws and eight defeats. Tavistock still are yet to draw an away game this season, with the Devonshire based outfit winning five and losing four away from Langsford Park this season.

The match against Bishop’s Cleeve looked to be heading for a draw until Alex Battle’s powerful strike altered the scoreline in Tavi’s favour. Another away win for Tavistock, could see the Red and Black outfit move up to as high as 10th position in the table. However, a win for the home side could see the club move up to 7th position if other results go their way.

The last match between these two sides was back in early September in the FA Trophy, first qualifying round at Lodge Road. Tavi were 0-2 winners that day in the Gloucestershire sunshine thanks to goals from Owen Pritchard and Jacob Bowker. The two sides are yet to play each other this season in the league, with the reverse fixture between the two clubs due to be played on the 27th of April at Langsford Park.
