Match Report: Bishops Cleeve vs Tavistock AFC

Tavi come from behind twice to win emphatic Seven-goal-thriller at Kayte Lane!!

The Lambs win their second game on the bounce after an entertaining win at a strong Bishop’s Cleeve side. The first chance of the game feel to the home side in the 10th minute, as a through ball from midfield found its way to Ben McLean who picked the ball up in the box. His shot was hit low and was saved by Aaron Dearing in the Tavistock goal. From the resulting corner another shot by McLean was saved by Dearing before the ball fell to defender Jack Holmes, his shot was hit hard and was blocked on the line by Dearing. Bishop’s Cleeve were then awarded a penalty in the 20th minute, after a cross from the Mitres, was deemed to have struck the hand off Tavi captain Ed Harrison. Two Minutes later, former Swindon Town Academy player Toby Holland step-up and struck his penalty down the middle past Dearing, for his 14th goal of the season. In the 28th minute a mistake from Ben Cross in defence for Tavi, saw the ball fall to Ross Langworthy in the box. The top-scorer let fly but his shot was saved expertly by Dearing down to his right. In the 39th minute a cross from the lively Jay Malshanskyj was missed by everyone and went out for a corner. The winger was a constant threat throughout the first half but just couldn’t find the killer ball to help add to Bishop’s Cleeve lead. The Mitres went into the break 1-0 up and in complete control.

Tavi started the second half with a substitution, as forward Dan Koita came on for Charlie Elkington. The forward was straight in the action and in the 51st minute ran into the box before being clipped by Holmes. The athletic striker went down, and the referee pointed to the spot for the second time in the game. In the 52nd minute, number nine Liam Prynn stepped up and rolled the ball into the bottom right corner with Liam Armstrong diving the other way in the Cleeve goal. The Lambs then took the lead in the 60th minute, after impressing play from left-midfielder Joe O’Loughlin, saw the former Frome man cut the ball across the box to Jacob Bowker. The midfielder opened his body up before rolling the ball into the bottom left-corner. Only four minutes later Bishop’s Cleeve equalised, following great play down the left from the impressive Malashanskyj. The left-winger then took a touch before floating a ball into the box. Number 10 and top scorer, Ross Langworthy rose highest and headed the ball into the back of the net past the helpless Dearing. In the 69th minute, a chance for the home side saw Holland dribble with the ball from the left. The youngster cut inside before hitting the ball low towards the bottom right-corner. The ball was saved excellently by Dearing and push out for a corner. From the corner a Josh Nelmes header was saved by the impressive Dearing before the ball fell to Holland. The midfielders shot flicked of a Tavi defender before gliding inches wide of the far post. In the 69th minute a second change for Tavi saw Plymouth Argyle loanee Jack Endacott, replace midfielder Tallan Burns.

In the 71st minute, the home side made their first chance of the afternoon with Stephen Davies being replaced by Toby Soule. A minute later a great chance for Tavistock saw a overtop through ball find its way to Liam Prynn. The former Torquay man did excellently to shrug of Holmes and make his way to the right-of-the-box before letting fly. The strikers shot was hit hard and low towards the bottom left-corner, but it was saved by the feet of Armstrong. In the 77th minute the team in green took the lead. Tavistock substitute Jack Endacott’s back pass to centre-back Taylor Scarff was overhit and the ball found its way to Malashanskyj. The former Melksham man got a shot away early, striking the ball past an outstretched Dearing into the near post. In the 78th minute Bishop’s Cleeve made their second change of the afternoon, which saw centre-back Linden Dovey be replaced by left-back Leroy Odiero. The change saw impressive well-rounded left-back, Willam Turner move to the centre of defence. A minute later, the silky Holland picked up the ball from distance before letting fly. His shot beat Dearing in the Tavi goal but not the post.

In the 82nd minute lively Tavi substitute Dan Koita chased what seemed like a lost cause. However, Cleeve goalkeeper Armstrong hesitated on the ball and after pressure from Koita, the goalkeeper gave away a corner. From the resulting set piece in the 83rd minute, Koita himself rose highest flicking the ball into the bottom left-corner and equalising the game up once again. In the 86th minute a final change for Tavistock saw scorer of the second goal, Jacob Bowker be replaced by Ben Fowles, who was recently recalled following a brief loan spell at Saltash United. In the first minute of four minutes added Tavistock took the lead. Great play down the left by O’Loughlin saw the former Exeter Academy player dribble into the box unchallenged before the midfielder laid the ball back to Alex Battle. The former Crawley attacker smashed the ball into the top-left corner leaving Armstrong with no chance, sending Tavistock’s travelling contingent into celebration. This is how the game ended with Tavi holding out for the last three minutes of added time. The only further action, saw Prynn pick up a yellow card for standing to close to a Cleeve freekick. The Lambs will now turn their attention to this Tuesday as they travel to Yate Town in a rearranged fixture at The South West Interiors Stadium. Bishop’s Cleeve are also in action this coming Tuesday as they take on Cribbs FC in the County Cup.
