Match Preview: Mousehole AFC vs Tavistock AFC

The Lambs face another tricky mid-week away trip this time to Cornwall to face Mousehole AFC!!!

Tavistock will be looking to pick up their fourth win in five matches this Tuesday, following their important win last Saturday against a out-of-from Paulton Rovers side. Early goals from Joe O’Loughlin and a penalty by Liam Prynn were enough for the victory on home soil, despite the Rovers pulling a goal back early in the second half from Jamarni Langlais. Mousehole also picked up a victory on home soil, as the Cornwall based outfit beat high-flying Frome Town 3-2. A brace from Hayden Turner and an early goal from former Lamb, Mitch Beardmore put The Seagulls 3-0 ahead, early into the second-half. The Robins pulled two-goals back through Kane Simpson and Sam Meakes but Mousehole held on for a important victory.

Mousehole’s victory on Saturday, was the clubs first since they beat Westbury United 4-0 at Trungle Parc on the 23rd of December. Mousehole, started of January with away-draws at Paulton Rovers and Bideford before losing to inform Yate Town at Trungle Parc on the 20th of January thanks to a penalty from man-of-the-moment Nick McCootie. Mousehole also lost away at Willand Rovers 2-1, before their important victory against Frome. Mousehole currently sit in 10th position and just five points outside the play-offs. The Seagulls have played 22 games this season, winning eight, drawing six and losing eight. A victory for the team in white and green against the Lambs could see the club move to as high as 6th position in the table. A victory for Tavi, could see the Red and Black outfit move to as high as 8th position and two points clear of Mousehole. The Lambs have played 20 matches this season, which is the joint lowest with Bideford. Stuart Henderson’s side have won nine drew two and lost nine games this season, currently sitting on 29 points one behind Jake Ash’s Seagulls’.

The last match between these two sides came in late September 2023, in the FA Trophy Second Qualifying Round, with Mousehole winning 3-0 at Trungle Parc thanks to goals from Hayden Turner, Mark Goldsworthy and Tim Nixon. The last League fixture between these two sides came back in late August, with the spoils shared at Langsford Park following a 2-2 draw. Tavi took the lead in the fixture back in August thanks to an early goal from Alex Battle before a brace from Turner put the Cornwall based outfit in front. Before a last-minute goal from Dan Koita equalised the game on a sunny day in Devon.

 

Mousehole AFC Key Players-

Hayden Turner- The attacker has scored an impressive 16 goals in 25 appearances this season including thirteen in the league, and he is fresh off a brace against Frome. The 2nd goal of the match for Turner against the Robins, showed the attackers composure to confidently round Frome goalkeeper Kyle Phillips before slotting the ball into an empty net. The striker, who can also play out-wide, started his career at Shortwood United where he made nine appearances in 16/17 season before moving to Cinderford Town. The attacker then moved to Gloucester City, where he made four appearances scoring once. Before the attacker moved further down south to play for the likes of St Austell and Newquay AFC. The attacker then joined Mousehole in the 19/20 season where he has been ever since, helping the club win multiple promotions including winning the Western League last season. The forward is the penalty taker for Mousehole this season and he is always reliable from the spot. The attacker loves to run in late and tap in crosses especially at the far-post. The quick but also intelligent forward, has already scored three this season against Tavistock and he will be looking to add to that impressive tally on Tuesday under the lights.

Mitch Beardmore- A player who is familiar to Tavistock fans after the youngster spent a short loan spell early this season at Langsford Park, where he impressed scoring three goals in three matches. These goals including two-great finishes against Bishop’s Cleeve and a lovely looping finish against Westbury to complete an important 2-3 win back in November. The diminutive midfielder, impressed Lambs fans with his great shooting from outside the box and dribbling which saw him on many occasions take on three players at a time and still get away with the ball. The Midfielder who is out on loan from Exeter City, left Tavi to play at a higher-level playing for Tiverton Town where he made nine appearances before retuning back to Exeter. The attacking-midfielder made his senior debut for Exeter City in the EFL trophy in the 22/23 season against Forest Green Rovers. Earlier this season, the youngster went on to make his first appearance in the EFL Cup for Exeter coming on in the 75th minute against Stevenage. Not long later, in September Beardmore made his debut for the Grecians in the League coming on for fellow youngster, Jake Richards in the 81st minute in a 1-1 draw with Leyton Orient. Before his move to Tavi this season, the Somerset born midfielder also made two appearances for the League One side in the EFL Trophy playing against Reading and Arsenal U21’s. Beardmore joined Mousehole at the end of January on loan till the end of the season and he has already featured twice for the club including scoring an expertly taken volley to put the Seagulls 1-0 up against Frome on Saturday. The attacker will be one to watch on Tuesday thanks to his close-control and excellent technique on the ball. He is a player,who when given time can pull out the spectacular on a number of occasions.
