The Lambs followed up their mid week win at Witheridge by a goal to nil, with a hard earned victory over Torpoint. Jason Vincent got the winner at Witheridge in the 82th minute.
Manager Henderson was forced to make changes as Shane Krac was unavailable along with Jack Crago who was playing for Truro City. Luke Brown and Jason Vincent came into the starting line-up.
The home team got off to a reasonable start with visiting keeper Peters called on to make smart saves from Dan Evans and Luke Brown. Josh Oak in the home goal made a good save in the 20th minute to deny Dan Pethick from opening the visitors account.
Play remained even between the two teams until the 39th minute when what looked a soft penalty decision for push in the penalty area saw the referee award a penalty kick. Dan Pethick made no mistake from the spot to give Torpoint the lead.
This stirred the Lambs into action and Peters was called on to make a great save to deny Glynn Hobbs before Luke Brown shot wide of the target when well placed after some fine work by Jason Vincent. Just before the interval Luke Brown produced a fine cross into the penalty area, where Warren Daw was brought down, the referee awarded a penalty kick. Glynn Hobbs thumped the ball home to level the scores.
The Lambs stated brightly in the second half with both wing backs Josh Robins and Ben Cross pushing much further forward. Robins made a fine run and cross but Jason Vincent shot flashed inches wide of the target. Glynn Hobbs then had a good effort deflected wide of the target, before the same player saw his shot from an acute angle hit the side netting.
Torpoint defended stoutly for long periods and always looked dangerous on the counter attack. Ben Cross and Steve Rogers created a great opportunity but once again a last ditch tackle denied Cross from scoring. The Lambs finally got the breakthrough in the 81st minute when a great move saw Josh Robins find Ricki Shepherd, his shot was blocked but he was on hand to slot home the rebound.
This win makes it three from three, a perfect start to the season. The Lambs were not at their best in this game and the performance not up to the high standards they have set. No doubt Manager Henderson will be looking for a return to top form, with a difficult run of fixtures over the next few weeks.
There were a number of good performances with both full backs catching the eye, with man of the match Ben Cross in excellent form.
