Manager Stuart Henderson made some changes to the starting line up. With what will be the title decider coming up, he decided to rest both Glynn Hobbs and Jack Crago who were on the substitutes bench. It was great to see Lewis Coombs back in the starting line up coming back from his long term injury.
It was Lewis Coombs who had the first opportunity to open the scoring, a fine move saw Luke Brown provide a great cross but Coombs header flashed inches over the bar. The Lambs took the lead in the tenth minute when another fine passing move lead to Tyler Elliot finding Luke Brown his first time into the penalty area was swept home by Coombs.
Minutes later the home team were forced to make a substitution when Lewis Coombs suffered a suspected dislocated shoulder, after a fall following an accidental clash with a Godolphin defender. Glynn Hobbs replaced Coombs.
The Lambs continued to control the game and created several scoring opportunities but Josh Gilbert in the visitors goal frequently denied the home attack with what was a top class goal keeping performance.
In the thirty fifth minute Gilbert made a magnificent save to deny Glynn Hobbs. Six minutes later he turned a Hobbs thunderbolt away for a corner kick
Just before the interval Josh Oak was called upon to make a smart save from a free kick taken by Alex Cole.
The Lambs increased the tempo of their passing at the start of the second half, so it came as no surprise when they doubled their lead in the fiftieth minute. A great pass from Ben Cross found Luke Brown who made the perfect pass to Josh Robin who hit an unstoppable left foot drive into the far corner of the net from twenty five yards.
On the hour Jack Crago replaced Luke Brown. Godolphin’ Sims shot then over the bar from twenty five yards, but it was the Lambs that looked the more likely to score.
Glynn Hobbs then rifled the ball home, only to ruled out, for what looked a very close off side decision.
The Lambs continued to press forward and increased their lead in the 75th minute when a Dave Hallett corner kick saw Lewis Daw rise majestically to power home a header into the top corner of the net.
In the 82nd minute Gilbert made two miraculous saves to deny the home team, a fierce shot from Hobbs was pushed away by the keeper, the ball fell to Warren Daw but his shot was parried by Gilbert, the ball fell to Jack Crago, he failed to hit the target as his effort went over the bar.
The Lambs made it four in the 85th minute when substitute Ricki Shepherd corner kick was headed home by Dan Evans. To be fair to Godolphin never gave up but they found the home defence a hard nut to crack, the closest they came was in time added on when Josh Oak made a smart save to deny Alex Cole.
Although not at their best the team did more than enough to record another victory. Had it not been for Josh Gilbert producing a performance of goal keeping excellence, then the home team would have won by a much greater margin.
This keeps the clubs title challenge on course, with two games to go.
