Another Solid Performance

Newquay 2 Tavistock AFC 6

The Lambs got off to the perfect start when Lewis Coombes made a fine break from midfield, his pass found Glyn Hobbs who shot across Trudgian low into the corner of the net in the fourth minute. Three minutes later following a foul on Jack Crago, Dave Halletts kick was headed inches wide of the target.

Newquay defender Simcox looped in a header from a free kick, but the linesman correctly ruled it out for offside.

The Lambs continued to dominate the game and missed several opportunities to increase their lead, with Warren Daw heading over and efforts from Crago, Coombes well saved by the home keeper. The Lambs increased their lead on the half hour when Josh Robins made a great break into the penalty area, his pass found Glyn Hobbs who produced a composed finish to make it 2-0. The visitors continued to dominate the game and should have had the game rapped up before the interval but they missed good opportunities with Coomes, Crago Hobbs and Fyneboy all going close.

The second half started as the first and a Crago cross was brilliantly saved by Trudgian.

The home team were back in the game in the 50th minute, when a defensive mix up saw the ball deflect into the path of Hayden Turner who sprinted away and fire past the advancing Jack Ord. This lifted the home team and they really started to get a foot hold in the game and the visitors started to look a bit edgy.

Ricki Shepherd then provided a perfect pass for Glyn Hobbs his cross found Jack Crago but his fine header thundered back off the post to safety. Shortly afterwards a fine move saw Crago knock one in to make it 3-1 to the Lambs.

Back came Newquay when another defensive lapse saw Lois Price slot the ball home.

This stirred the Lambs into action and it was not long before they regained a two goal lead when Hobbs completed his hat trick. Good work by Shepherd found Warren Daw his great cross was headed home by Jack Crago to make it five. Following a corner kick the ball found Shepherd his perfect pass saw Crago net number six.

This was another good performance although not to the high standards set at St Austell, however it was more than enough to secure the three points. To be fair to Newquay they put in a tremendous effort which meant that the Lambs had to work hard throughout the ninety minutes. This result almost makes certain of fourth place for the Lambs, but there is a possibility of third place, so long as the team wins its last three games.
