The new look Tavistock side for this season hosted a new Plymstock side, both smarting from poor starts the previous weekend.
Both teams moved the ball around in good style making the game a good watch for spectators.
Lambs Sam Dyer out muscled a defender in the corner and found Billy McGowan at the far post whose shot was deflected wide. Glenn Hurrell on an overlap then had a good effort go wide after some good wing play.
Two minutes later a superb cross from McGowan saw skipper Scott Wellington rise highest to power home a header from eight yards. Plymstock went on the attack immediately and a quick throw caught Tavy out and a good run and crisp finish on the angle saw the sides level at 1-1. Tavistock had some sustained pressure and a resulting corner saw Phelps whip in a fast swirling corner that eluded everyone for a 2-1 lead on 38 mins. Plymstock were in no mood to accept this and a swift reply came in the form of a soft penalty, Sam Dyer adjudged to impede the striker in the box. The penalty was duly dispatched for 2-2 after 42 mins. Plymstock should have gone into the break ahead but for a fantastic double save on the line at the stroke of half time.
The good football continued after the break, Sam dyer for the lambs came close with a header from a free kick as did McGowan from a corner on 57 mins. The pace of the game took its toll on both teams but it was Tavistock that were looking the more dangerous creating many chances and Plymstock relying on the quick counter to cause problems. It wasn’t to be for Tavistock as a Plymstock defender headed onto his own bar from a corner and then McGowan, Wood, Phelps and Davidson all being denied the winning strike via a mixture of poor finishing and good goalkeeping. Tavy and Plymstock shared the points in this entertaining 2-2 draw.
Lambs manager Tim May said ‘ it was a hugely improved performance from Saturday, the new signings are showing signs of settling in well and with a few more games and some better finishing I’m positive we will hit our stride in the coming weeks’
