Both teams came into the game off the back of good away wins in the FA Vase. Manager Stuart Henderson tweaked the starting line up to allow squad members’game time. Dan Evans returned to the heart of the defence to allow Dave Hallett to return to midfield. Tallan Burns also started in midfield with Jack Crago, Reece Shanley and Tyler Elliott on the bench.
There was a very strong wind coming in off the Atlantic making conditions for both sides difficult but the Lambs immediately settled and within 2 minutes they took the lead. Mason Hughes’s low cross into the area was met by Josh Grant, his shot was clocked but there was Liam Prynn on hand to slot home. The visitors continued to create chances throughout the first half with Glyn Hobbs, Grant and Prynn all going close. Newquay were reduced to breakaway chances but too many balls going straight to Lambs custodian Josh Oak. Their best of the first half came when Bray-Evans went on a jinking run but shot over the bar.
Newquay came out for the second half firing with Oak having to tip over a fierce shot from Pezez and within 5 minutes they were back on level terms. Warren Daw was adjudged to have fouled Pezez in the area and from the resultant penalty kick Squires made no mistake.
Newquay’s joy was over within 2 minutes as the Lambs went ahead for the second time, Daw’s long ball out of defence caused confusion between keeper Dower and his central defenders and the ball fell kindly for Grant to slot into an empty net.
On 65 minutes the Lambs increased their lead, a passing movement between Prynn, Grant and Hobbs saw the later slide the ball goalwards, it looked like that it was going in but Prynn got a final touch to ensure that it did.
The lambs continued to press for the remainder of the game with sub Jack Crago giving the Newquay defence further problems.
The night was completed on 80 minutes when from a Burns corner Crago rose unchallenged at the far post to head home.
