The annual charity match between the Champions and the League Cup winners turned out to be a feast of goals from both sides.
The lambs were back to a somewhat full strength side but still missing a couple of central defenders and two front men.
They went ahead after just five minutes, Luke Brown’s shot saw the keeper fumble and it went for a corner and from it Jack Crago headed the ball back across goal for defender Dave Slade head home from close range. Celebrations were short lived. Within a minute the ashes were back on level terms and minutes later took the lead. Lewis Edwards cross eluded everyone except Ryan Richards to volley home from close range. It was raining goals in these early stages and another soon came. A Saltash corner was not cleared and it fell for Simmonds to meet it full on the volley from 25 metres out and it hit the cross bar bounced down ,hit Josh Oak to rebound into the net.
The lambs got right back into the game on the half hour, a good passing move allowed Brown to get in on goal with a moment of trickery to slot home. The Lambs then drew level 2 minutes later, Crago and Josh Robbins combined down the left for the latter to slot home.
The comeback was short lived as the Ashes went into the lead yet again as Richrds turned sharply in the area to plant a shot into the bottom corner. The Ashes could have increased their lead on the stroke of half time but from a corner a header hit a colleague on its way to goal and was eventually cleared. Even then there was still time for the lambs to draw level. Luke Cloke’s free kick was tipped over the bar and from the resultant corner Crago’s header back across goal was headed over from Cloke.
4-3 to the Ashes at half time and the goals would continue to flow in the second half. A great crossfield ball allowed Richards in again to give the Ashes a 2 goal cushion yet again but back came tavistock on the hour when from a second corner by Dave Hallett Crago rose to head home. The lambs got caught out again with 20 minutes remaining as they regained their 2 goal cushion. Tavy were awarded a penalty with 15 minutes to go when Crago to bring the lambs back to the odd goal. They then had what was probably their best spell in the game as they chased the elusive equaliser, Brannon Roberts set up Tallon Burns but his effort went just wide and Robbins saw his effort come back off the upright.
A thoroughly entertaining game for the nuetrals amongst the crowd but both sides will be concerned for leaking so many goals but a worthwhile workout in a competetive game all for charity
