Tavistock A F C 4, Bishops Cleeve 1.
The Lambs ended a series of one nil and one, one contests with what turned out to be a convincing
victory writes Eric Pinch.
Tavistock were without the injured Josh Grant , Taylor Scarff and unavailable Callum Watson which
then allows starts for players who would probably been on the subs bench. But such is the Lambs
squad that it still looked a formidable line.
Bishops Cleeve arrived somewhat later than it would be expected having been held up in traffic but
the kick off was not affected.
The Lambs were on the front foot from the off and were unlucky to not go ahead after 5 minutes
when Ben Fowles found himself in space but to only stumble and the chance was gone. The early
pressure came to fruition on 13 minutes as Fowles shot was blocked by keeper Clayton, the ball
fizzed around the goal area and it appeared to be an own goal but the ball remained in play on the
goaline before Alex Battle stabbed it over the line. After a discussion with the assistant the referee
awarded the goal. Ed Harrison and Fowles would go close before the visitors first real chance came
on 27 minutes when former Lambs player Jordan Annear would see his effort saved by Josh Oak.
Fowles then headed over from a Josh Robbins cross before the away side thought they had
equalised on 40 minutes but George Box was adjudged to be off side. Joe O Connor then went close
before Bishops Cleeve drew level on the stroke of half time when from a corner the ball fell kindly
for Box to stab home from close range.
1 -1 at half time and really the home side should have been a couple of goals to the good.
So, it was all to play for in the second half with the visitors having the better of the opening 15
minutes. The game turned in the Lambs favour on 65 minutes when they took the lead again, a long
ball saw Liam Prynn coolly head down to allow Battle to get control, turn inside to slot past keeper
Clayton. 7 minutes later and its 3-1. Full back Ben Cross picks up a loose ball on the centre line sees
Clayton off his line and sends the ball goal wards at a great height as it comes down and bounces up
and into the goal at the great delight of players and supporters. The last 15 minutes saw the Lambs
in full flight passing the ball about and it was no surprise that they added a 4 th with 8 minutes
remaining, Battle’s pass over the top to sub Iestyn Harris and his first touch allowed Tallon Burns to
slot home from close range.
A good afternoon for the Lambs that puts them 6 th in the table.
