A relatively short trip for the Lambs up the M5 to face one of our local derby teams. After Saturdays
disappointing result against Bemerton Heath they were looking for a vastly better performance
writes Eric Pinch
Dan Kiota came in for Ben Fowles and a warm up injury to Iestyn Harris allowed Adam McPherson
his chance to start. The early showings for the Lambs saw them on the front foot as they passed the
ball well on a very good playing surface with Alex Battle and Tallon Burns getting shots away in the
opening stages with both efforts going straight to the keeper. Equally, Owen Howe, for the hosts
would see his headed effort go straight into the arms of the Lambs custodian Aaron Dearing.
Both sides created a duo of corners and free kicks during the first half but it was the Lambs who
came the closest to scoring as McPherson’s effort just prior to half time skim the crossbar.
A very good half from the Lambs with a marked improvement from the previous match.
They continued in the same vein at the start of the second half with 3 very good chances all within 6
minutes, first Ed Harrison set up Kiota but his shot sailed just over, the same combination of players
created an even better chance as Kiota dummied the keeper but took him just wide of the goal and
his effort came back off an upright with Battle again shooting just over.
Chances created and not taken and the Lambs paid the price on the stroke of the hour. A tussle near
the touchline and away dug out saw the referee award a free kick and a yellow card for Kiota,
Players and supporters stand and sit in amazement as to what the referee saw. However in floats the
free kick to the far post its headed back across goal forcing Harrison to clear but it comes off him and
slices into the Lambs net.
On 70 minutes the home side doubled their advantage when from a poor clearance allowed man of
the match Ryan Guppy time on the edge of the area to fire home. 3 efforts for the Lambs in the final
quarter of an hour saw each sail over the crossbar to bring the end of another disappointing evening
in mid Devon.
