Football, just like Pheasant, it’s a funny old game when from Saturday to Monday the whole outlook
changes from doom and gloom to delight and elation writes Eric Pinch
The Seagulls of Mousehole arrived at Langsford Park hovering around the top of the table despite
dropping points from the previous game.
Back in goal came Aaron Dearing with Scott Piper and Ben Fowles starting at the expense of Ben
Cross and Jacob Bowker who would sit on the bench.
It took 88 minutes in the last game for the lambs to get a serious shot on target but the home side
started strong, early pressure from set pieces set the tone and they took the lead on just 8 minutes
as Alex Battle and Liam Prynn combine to send the former clear to slot home past Oli Chenoweth
from 12 yards. The perfect start for the Lambs in front of a very healthy crowd of 304.
It was an even first half with both sides creating chances with the visitors getting back on level terms
on 26 minutes with what one can only describe as a dubious foul in the area for the referee to point
to the spot. Up stepped Hayden Turner to send Dearing the wrong way. Minutes before half time the
visitors got themselves in front with a well worked goal in the area as turner was allowed to get his
shot away.
A tentative second half with both sides not committing too many forward but as the game wore on
so the lambs gained in confidence and created a number of chances, just after the hour Ed
Harrison’s effort was palmed away by Chenoweth for a corner. Dan Koita came on for Tallan Burns
on 70 minutes.
10 minutes later the lambs went close when from a Iestyn Harris long throw in Taylor Scarff flicked
on for Battle to hook just wide, Harrison saw another effort saved by the keeper and on the stroke of
full time Battle’s corner saw Scarff’s downward header go straight into the arms of the keeper.
There was 8 minutes of time added on and the Lambs pressure finally told a cross field ball found
Koita go clear and cut in from the left to coolly slot home and send the Langsford Park faithful into
sheer delight and Mousehole completely demoralised.
A very entertaining game with the Lambs fully deserving a share of the spoils after a disastrous start
to the season.
