FA Trophy September 9, 2023 @ 3:00 pm The South West Interiors Stadium

A detour through Okehampton due to hold ups on the A 30 at Sourton, a fear of being caught up
with The Tour of Britain Cycle race piddling through Yate around 2 pm did not deter the Lambs as
they arrived at The South West Interiors Stadium in very good time for this F A Trophy cup tiewrites
Eric Pinch.
Both teams were looking for their first victory of the season having played 4, won 0, lost 3 drawn 1.
The Bluebells sit just above the Lambs on goal difference.
Just one change for the Lambs as Tallon Burns stepped in for Ben Fowles.
The ground was bathed in sunshine, in fact it was hotter than the Hobs of Hell, and I could hardly
crush a grape let alone run around after a ball. Each side must be congratulated on their
performances.
Chances were few and far between in the first half, Ed Harrison cleared from a Yate corner, and Dan
Koita’s effort went straight at the keeper with Scott Piper’s rebound from an Alex battle free kick
going wide. Keeper Aaron Dearing cleared a dangerous situation with a Liam Prynn shot deflected
for a corner.
Due to the heat a series of drink breaks occurred during the half, Koita went close for a second time.
A total of eleven minutes were added on for these stoppages and injuries with Prynn’s turn and shot
in the final moment went straight to keeper Aaron Sainsbury.
The second half, “excuse the pun”, hotted up. Ben Cross came on for Adam McPherson. From a Yate
corner a scramble in the goal area saw Dearing cleared followed by Koita curling a shot just wide of
the target Dylan Lewis replaced Kyle Tooze for the home side with Joe O lloughlin shooting wide
when well placed for the Bluebirds.
68 minutes gone and Jacob Bowker replaced Tallon Burns.. The home side applied the pressure as
the game wore on forcing a series of free kicks and corners and from one Piper did ever so well to
head off the line a Chris Peck header. Sub Owen Pritchard hit an upright before the Lambs finally
broke the deadlock on 85 minutes. It was Bowker, from midfield sent Pritchard away just to the right
of goal to send in a shot across Sainsbury to nestle in the net and on 92 minutes the lambs sealed
victory with their second. Prynne sent Bowker away as he got to the ball before Sainsbury to stab it
past him and slot home into an unguarded net. Dearing kept a clean sheet on 94 minutes as he
clawed an Aaron Parson’s header around a post.
Not the best of games to watch but the hot conditions had a major factor in the outcome of the
result and it was the Lambs that prevailed late on with the two late finishes of quality.
The 1 st and 2 nd qualifying round draws had already been done and the lambs already knew that
victory would see them face the winners of Malvern Town or Mousehole away.
So, it’s off to deepest West Cornwall on Saturday September 23 rd to face the Seagulls with a 3pm kick
off.
